03:45 pm - WorldCon is a Go After All
Today I received an invitation to the launch for Tesseracts 13. So I suppose I AM still going to WorldCon. Now I should really try to find a room before I end up on the street...

My thumb still aches. I can't sit at the computer for long and it's driving me crazy.

06:29 pm - Bummers all around
I have tendinitis in my left thumb. Now wearing a splint, icing, advil, etc. Can only type for short periods.

Found out last night that Tesseracts 13 Won't be in print until September 15, so no WorldCon launch.

Grr...

If anyone out there in LJ land wants to buy my WorldCon membership (I paid $240 Canadian) please let me know. It's in Montreal this year, from August 6 to 10.

02:57 pm - Ad Astra report
Okay, this won't be much of a report, more of a memo...

I thoroughly enjoyed Ad Astra this past weekend. My reading was well attended (thank you to all who came out!!) and my other panels were enjoyable. Michael's GoH duties were fun to watch -- now I know how the other half lives ;).

I've spent the last day and a half sitting and reading and bringing myself out of post-con mode and back to reality. I am allowing thoughts to simmer and hope to start another new short story asap.

11:58 am - World Fantasy Con declared a Success for Suzanne
I arrived home, safe and sound, from Calgary last night. World Fantasy Con was not only fun and educational for me, but also a great career success.

I had a chance to plot noodle with a respected author concerning a story ending, I met a publishing person I never would have believed I would have the courage to talk to, and I was able to catch up with friends, including [info]reddherring1955, [info]whtbearfan, [info]roberthoge & Kate, and [info]kijjohnson (thanks for the drink, btw!). I also had the chance to chat with [info]jaylake, [info]davidlevine, [info]ellen_datlow, and [info]aliettedb. I was disappointed that [info]ladnews wasn't in attendence even though his name was listed in the programming.

I've also begun the insanity known as NaNoWriMo. I'm behind, a bit, but getting words down. The shiny counter:

3167 / 50000 words. 6% done!.

05:35 pm - WFC is a go
I finally had the time to sit and book my flights for Calgary's WFC. My mom is tagging along, since she hasn't been on a vacation all year and she loves Calgary.

I'll be staying at the main hotel, for all of you who are attending. I'm flying out of Kitchener, so I save most of Toronto's ridiculous fees. Yay. But we arrive after 8pm Thursday, so I might miss most of the first day's festivities.

Hope to see some of my LJ friends there.

04:26 pm - Has anyone seen my summer?
Holy cow, it's been more than a month since I posted. I think that's a personal slacker record for me. So much has happened, I hardly know where to begin. At the same time, it's all the same stuff: kids, swimming, cons, etc.

I just came back from Dragon*Con. I had a total blast, catching up with friends including [info]reddherring1955, [info]eugie, [info]orig_ladycat, [info]whtbearfan, [info]aldeygirl, [info]friedsf, and [info]arkhamrefugee.

One of the highlights of the con for me was my interview of Edward James Olmos.

Now that my children are back at school I finally have a regular time slot in which to write. If only I could catch up.

I vow to use LJ more often. Fingers crossed I can pull it off.

07:18 pm - Update
GenreCon was fun again this year. I spoke on four panels in a row from noon til 4pm, so I was pretty beat by the end of the day, but still managed to have a great time at the post-con dinner at "Ups and Downs."

Thanks to [info]jeffreyab for inviting me again this year!

On the eye recovery front, I saw the doc today. My inflammation is down to a mere 10% of its original stages. So yay! The bad news, however, is that the 0.25 diopter distance issue has not resolved itself with the swelling. So I won't be 20/20 in my left eye. On the plus side, this slight imperfection doesn't affect my ability to drive and it might delay my need for reading glasses.

The doc gave me the go-ahead to finally work on my garden, so long as I wear good sunglasses and don't work on a really windy day. Yay! I can finally do the clean up that my neighbours all did three weeks ago!

08:09 pm - Home from Troy
High Voltage Confusion was fun! I met a few new people and enjoyed not only my panels but the two others I attended. The kids enjoyed their first con, particularly the Anime room, the Dance Dance Revolution room, and the "free food" as found in the consuite.

The con seemed to be totally rocking, particularly in the party department, though since I had the kids the only party I attended was the pizza/PJ party for the kids where I enjoyed a Road Runner DVD.

The drive was tiring, requiring much caffeine. But I'm home and we're safe.

Whew!

Now to get to helping with the homework I should've made the kids do all weekend...

06:26 pm - Back online
I had a great time at World Fantasy Con over the weekend. I met some new people, visited with friends, and wow: [info]reddherring1955 and [info]whtbearfan surprised me on Friday! I'm so glad they made it to WFC, we had a great time catching up.

I got home late last night and wanted to reconnect online then drat! My internet was down.

But I'm back now and proud to announce that I got some NaNoWriMo words in. I'm up to 3,524 words on "Poison." Not bad for a second day. (I managed just over 300 words and that's all at WFC).

The shiny counter: (Yikes - Zokutou is down, but they left me some code so the blue bit is wrong but the numbers are right)

3524 / 50,000

05:49 pm - I'm down but not out
I sat down today and processed the pile of rejections that have been accumulating. It turns out that just about everything I've submitted lately has come back. Bummer. I haven't had the time, energy, or nerve to send anything back out, either.

Must find motivation somewhere.

I have been editing book 1 of my trilogy and I've mapped out the plot for book 2 which I intend to write during NaNo. Here's hoping I can scrape some writing time in during WFC. Oh, and I should probably pack soon.

Halloween approaches...

10:46 pm - Home, safe and sound
I'm at home, unpacked, and exhausted.

The flight home was wonderful. Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it? The airline gave me a free upgrade to first class. I had the whole row to myself so I slept for most of the flight, except for the snack of wine, cheese, crackers, and grapes. I was pampered and I didn't even pay for it! I'm having a very good luck day.

I miss all my Dragon*Con friends already. *sniff*

Must. Sleep. Now.

05:29 am - Dragon*Con report
I had my best Dragon*Con EVER this year. I put in more hours in the Daily Dragon office than last year, wrote five articles, spoke on three panels in the SF Lit track, and participated in a writing workshop.

Thursday night I watched four bands and reported on the concert for the Daily Dragon.
