11:57 pm - Closer, but still not there I walked over to Chapters today, but got distracted. First, I tried to hook up to their internet access and wasted a good half an hour on that. Next, I reworked the ending of "The Tear Closet" as per the editors' request. Then I worked on the novel, but got big time distracted by a conversation with another Starbucks patron. By the end of a very long writing session, I only managed 1917 words. My NaNoWriMo grand total now stands at 46,655 words. Close, but still no cigar. The shiny counter:

10:27 pm - A good solid day I slept really late today, in keeping with my self-care scenario. Then the chores built up, but I found time to head to Starbucks for a good solid block of writing. I must admit, after such a long gap between writing sessions, it took me a while to get back into the swing of things, but once I got rolling, I managed 2964 words. That puts my NaNoWriMo total at 44,738 words. The shiny counter:
44738 / 50000 words. 89% done!
In other news, I got my flu shot today. Have you gotten yours yet? Current Location: the living room Current Mood: accomplished

03:43 pm - Hockey and more hockey My older son had his first hockey tournament in Peterborough this past weekend. They won one game and lost two, but they had fun and bonded as a team. The idea of writing in that particular climate was laughable. I must admit, being a hockey mom isn't the same thing in a tournament environment at all. I managed a mere 867 words at a Tim Hortons yesterday while we were waiting for his final game. That puts my NaNoWriMo total at 41,774 words. The shiny counter:
41774 / 50000 words. 84% done!
After the weekend, I soooo needed a break today. So no writing, no dishes, no nothing. Just vegging for the first time in ages. A huge chunk of self care for Suzanne and I'm feeling pretty damned relieved right about now. Current Location: my office Current Mood: calm

03:28 pm - Go, go, go! Another productive day at Chapters was had by me. I toiled my way out of the awkward place I put my protag in and boxed her into another awkward corner. Oh well, there's always tomorrow. I wrote 2225 words today, a lovely roundish number, bringing my NaNoWriMo total to 40,907 words. The shiny counter:

04:16 pm - Made up for my day off All were healthy chez Church today, so after the school drop-off run, I headed straight to the Starbucks in Chapters and wrote like crazy. I scored today's numbers, plus made up for taking Monday off, managing 3778 words today. That puts my NaNoWriMo grand total at 38,682 words. Woot! I am rapidly approaching 40K. Look out, the end is almost in sight. The shiny counter:

08:02 pm - Back at it Yesterday was way too busy, so I cut myself some slack and took the day off. I felt terrible about it, though. Funny, yesterday was my first day since NaNoWriMo began that I haven't written one single word. I need to do it now, or I feel all itchy and antsy all over. That's exactly why I do NaNoWriMo by the way, is to put the writing habit back into place. I need a deadline or I fall so easily off the bandwagon. Today, my younger son stayed home from school, sick, so that blew my plan to go to Starbucks and make up for yesterday. But I took Michael's advice, and after dinner, set the boys up with a movie so I could write. I managed 1841 words. Not a make-up for yesterday, but a healthy dose of today's requirement. My total now stands at 34,904 words. You'd think I should just write another 96 to break 35K, but I think I'll save that joy for tomorrow. The shiny counter:
34904 / 50000 words. 70% done! Current Location: my office Current Mood: accomplished

06:44 pm - A different Starbucks I had to drop one of the girls off at a birthday party, so I wrote at a different Starbucks today (in Aurora). I found a table with a plug, which is always good, and managed 1842 words, skimming just over the 1667 daily line. I even ended a chapter on a cliffhanger, and I have no idea what's going to happen next, but I have until tomorrow to figure it out. My NaNoWriMo total now stands at 33,063 words. The shiny counter:

01:20 pm - An early score I drove to Chapters today, it's too rainy and miserable to walk. I scored not only the best table, by the window, but 2348 words as well. Woot! The novel's going in a fresh new direction and I'm loving it. My NaNoWriMo total now stands at 31,221 words. I broke the 30K barrier. Yahoo! The shiny counter:

05:21 pm - A slower day Another successful day at Chapters. I managed 2566 words today, bringing my NaNoWriMo grand total to 28,873. I'm now officially three full days above the mark, which buys me the buffer I need for the hockey tournament. The trick now, is to make my 1667 every day in the meantime. The shiny counter:
28873 / 50000 words. 58% done!

07:20 pm - Cracking the halfway ceiling In keeping with my goals for the week, I scored a big NaNoWriMo bonus by crossing the 25K mark two days early! Woot! So now I have almost a three day buffer of words, which should help me out next weekend when my older son has a hockey tournament. My daily total: 3605 words, and the grand total now stands at 26,307 words. Go me!! The shiny counter:
26307 / 50000 words. 53% done!

06:14 pm - Score another success in the NaNo column I walked over to Chapters again today, and wrote like the wind. I scribbled another 3537 words, bringing my total to 22702. Woot! 11:47 am - Yesterday rocked! I made it to the Starbucks at Chapters yesterday and wrote a whopping 4021 words, bringing my total to 19,165 for NaNoWriMo. I must say, it felt fantastic to be well ahead of the daily goal pace. Whew! Today, I will head back to Chapters asap. The shiny counter:
19165 / 50000 words. 38% done!
Last night, in honour of Remembrance Day, Michael and I went to see Passchendaele. And though the movie was a bit slow in the middle it was (a) beautifully shot and (b) moving. Paul Gross as star/writer/director/producer/song writer certainly put his heart and soul into the film. Go see it, if you can. Current Location: the kitchen Current Mood: accomplished

11:58 pm - Behind again, but only by a day I took a day off to spend with my kids and my sister + niece yesterday. Today, I had so many chores to do that I didn't even start writing until almost 11pm. so once again, I'm getting behind on NaNoWriMo. But tomorrow, I have an appointment with the Starbucks in Chapters. The shiny counter:

01:55 am - Tired but happy I'm tired but I did it. I finally managed to catch up on NaNoWriMo words. Of course, I probably shouldn't count it as caught up because it's after midnight and I'm technically writing into tomorrow instead of today. But heck, I need the boost. I wrote 2310 words today, putting my total at 13380. The shiny counter:

12:12 am - Okay, so I didn't exactly watch the game I wrote all my NaNoWriMo words at the rink during my older son's hockey game tonight. I'm glad I didn't miss any goals scored by him, but I did see him doing his best. I flew tonight, getting down 2055 words in about an hour and a half, putting my total at 11070. I'm still about 500 words off the mark, but making steady progress. The shiny counter:

09:58 pm - Got some down, but only a handful After much procrastination, I got some words down on paper for NaNoWriMo. Managed 1118 words, half at my younger son's first ever fencing lesson and the other half in bed. I love notebook computers. The total is now 7568. Still behind, more so, again, than yesterday, but tomorrow is another day. The shiny counter:
7568 / 50000 words. 15% done!
I made changes to "The Tear Closet" on the plane ride home, and had a chance to read them over this morning. I like the new ending, I've tweaked it a bit, but I need another day or two for it to sit and stew before I declare it fit for resubmission. 06:21 pm - NaNo continues I found time to go to the Starbucks in Chapters today. 3283 words later, I am almost caught up on the 1667 words-per-day schedule that is NaNoWriMo. I am a mere 218 words shy since my total word count is now 6450. The goal should be doable tomorrow, except for the whole they-need-my-help-at-school thing. The shiny counter:

11:58 am - World Fantasy Con declared a Success for Suzanne I arrived home, safe and sound, from Calgary last night. World Fantasy Con was not only fun and educational for me, but also a great career success.
I had a chance to plot noodle with a respected author concerning a story ending, I met a publishing person I never would have believed I would have the courage to talk to, and I was able to catch up with friends, including reddherring1955, whtbearfan, roberthoge & Kate, and kijjohnson (thanks for the drink, btw!). I also had the chance to chat with jaylake, davidlevine, ellen_datlow, and aliettedb. I was disappointed that ladnews wasn't in attendence even though his name was listed in the programming.
I've also begun the insanity known as NaNoWriMo. I'm behind, a bit, but getting words down. The shiny counter:

08:24 pm - On the e-side this time I submitted a few stories via email today. I managed to capitalize on some October 31 deadlines. Go me. "Yesterday's Clothes" went to Strange Horizons, "Puddles of Melancholy" to Glimmer Train, and "Courting Ice" to Fantasy Magazine. That puts my total number of subs for the year at 33. This is week 44, so I'm still eleven subs behind, but I'm slowly catching up. The shiny counter:
33 / 52 submissions. 63% done!
Still no plot whatsoever for NaNoWriMo, but I've thought of a couple of opening sentences. Hey, you gotta start somewhere. Current Location: my office Current Mood: accomplished Current Music: George Michael - Faith
