11:13 am - There's more to it than meets the eye I've been making multiple trips to the pool store getting my water tested in an attempt to get the chemicals balanced. I did manage one swim yesterday, my first swim of the season. The wind made it brisk, but it was lovely to float and dive and remember what it feels like to be a fish. 09:38 pm - The first swim! Our pool is now about 2/3 full of water. The boys, a neighbour kid, and I broke it in with an initiation swim after dinner. The water is still pretty cold as the electrical isn't hooked up yet, so the heater probably won't be online until Saturday. 07:13 pm - Day 3 of construction Pool update: - smooth coat done for pool floor - deck poured - markings sprayed for fence and posts - scheduled fence install and shed install Flickr photos including today's shots On the Dragon*Con front I've only barely started packing -- mostly my laptop bag and writing-related stuff. Haven't even started with the clothes yet. And I've still got to clean the fish tank, do the dishes, take out the garbage and recycling, etc. So what am I doing wasting my time on the internet? ...gotta go! 07:44 pm - Day 2 of construction Today's pool update: - cement, back-fill, and gravel poured around the outside walls of the pool - cement poured and smoothed in the bottom of the pool (they emptied the cement truck) - gravel poured around the deck and patio (a whole dump truck of gravel) The pool pix. On the writing side, I finished the rough draft of my query letter and synopsis/proposal for the advanced writers' workshop. Tomorrow I will make copies for the class. 07:07 pm - They've finally begun Today was all about getting stuff done. I organized photos from my trip to New England, added some to Flickr, and updated my web page. For those of you who asked, I finally posted some of my photos from the Salem cemetery. Pix of the New England trip. The big news: finally, the construction of my pool has begun. Woot! It won't be finished before I go away, but the project should be well underway. Pix of the pool project. I also posted pictures from the Harry Potter Festival in July. Pix of New Hogsmead.
