11:04 am - Hey, if it worked before...
I finally had the chance to give, "Destiny Lives in the Tattoo's Needle" a final read-through today. Now it's in the hands of the editors of Tesseracts 14 to slush as they will, so to speak.

My total number of subs for the year has risen again to a whopping 7. Yes, I know, it's low, but it's all I've got. (And I've reached the lucky 13%! Woot!) The shiny counter:

7 / 52 submissions. 13% done!

08:09 pm - Out the Door
I sent, "Jelly and the D-Machine" to Writers of the Future today. Yay! It read like a first-draft-ish story, but I think it worked, so what the heck. I'm feeling pretty good about having a couple of stories out there, even if it means I've been neglecting the novel. Orcs storm the wall!

That puts my total number of submissions for the year at 6. The shiny counter:

6 / 52 submissions. 12% done!

In other news, my pool is closed, just in time for our cold miserable weather. Summer is certainly long gone.

And on the irritating front: inanimate objects are the enemy. I'm just saying...it's been one of those days.

08:52 pm - It's a Miracle
You should sit down...seriously, because I wouldn't want you to faint and crack your head open.

Okay...you sitting down?

I submitted a story today. It's true, I swear! I sent "The Needle's Eye" to Asimov's. That puts my number of subs for the year at...I know, it's embarrassing...5 for the year.

The sort-of-shiny counter:

5 / 52 submissions. 10% done!

Oh, and I updated my website, including the Gallery which was sadly, horribly behind the times.

09:24 pm - A submission, you say? It's true, I swear!
I mailed "Cold Feet" to Writers of the Future today. Woot! That puts my number of submissions for the year at four. It's sad, but it's all mine. The shiny counter:

4 / 52 submissions. 8% done!

I figured I would dabble in my financials, starting the business statements for my tax return. I planned to work for about an hour then do some other submissions. Five and a half hours later, I was rushing out the door to pick up my older son and hadn't even gotten as far as I wanted to get.

Did I mention I loathe tax season??

09:58 pm - One chapter closer
After another successful editing session at Starbucks, I edited about a chapter and a half of "Flight." The end creeps ever closer.

On the submission front, I sent "Destiny Lives in the Tattoo's Needle" to Interzone. Holy cow, postage to the UK is expensive! That puts my total subs for the year at 3. The shiny counter:

3 / 52 submissions. 6% done!

Go me. :)

12:15 pm - First two of the year
I finally did it. I put submitting above editing the novel, and sent two stories out the door (and I've decided where two more will go, once I'm near a printer and can get them ready for mailing out).

"Courting Ice" is off to Strange Horizons and "Puddles of Melancholy" to the antho Quantum Genre on the Planet of Arts. Thanks to [info]reddherring1955 for the antho tip.

Two subs for the year, and counting. This is week #6, so I'm behind, of course. No where to go but up. The shiny counter: (which assumes a 52 sub year, and not the afore resolution-based promise of 64)

2 / 52 submissions. 4% done!

Now I must cease with the procrastination and work on the novel.

05:01 pm - Avoiding the Nano - I know, bad author
I have been avoiding my novel all day. It's making me crazy because I have that itching-to-write feeling, but I have been busy/distracted/in denial all day. So I figured I might as well submit another story so I could at least feel like I'm performing a writing-related activity. So "Olives and Ice" is off to Abyss and Apex. That puts my total subs for the year at 35 and this is week 45 for those of you keeping score, so I'm now only 10 weeks behind. Yikes, that sounds bad, doesn't it. The shiny counter:

35 / 52 submissions. 67% done!

In other news, Lenny Kravitz has cancelled the remainder of his Canadian Tour dates so my rescheduled tickets are now to be returned for refund. Drat!!

07:10 pm - An odd sub
I subbed "Dark Luck" today to Baen's Universe. The process was rather odd, since they suggest new writers post stories to their message board. I did. But now I feel weird, like I haven't really subbed the story at all. That's my sub for next week's sub-a-week. Here's the shiny counter:
Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
13 / 15
(86.7%)

I'm glad it's out there now, so I can focus on "Yesterday's Clothes" and get it ready for WOTF.

08:02 pm - Accomplishments
Today I finally did a critique for [info]reddherring1955. Then I read several stories for the Asimov's review I'm doing for Tangent.

On Friday, I received my first "Didn't work for me" reject from JJA at F&SF. It seems Mr. Adams finally read one of my stories all the way through. Perhaps it was because the story was only 700 words long? :) In the spirit of getting right back on the horse, I did my sub for next week early, sending "Hot Furball on a Cold Morning" to shorthorror.com.

I forgot to post the shiny counter last week, for the subs to the best-of-horror anthos, so here's the new revised counter:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
11 / 15
(73.3%)

01:10 pm - My submission for this week
I plunged into the world of foreign language reprints today. I subbed my story, "Everyone Needs a Couch" to Nowa Fantastyka in Poland. It's cool to imagine the possibilities.

So here's my weekly counter:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
9 / 15
(60.0%)

No words for NaNo yet today. I hope to get at it soon.
