10:14 pm - Home, for a change I have been extremely busy of late. Things I have done:
- drove to Arlington for reddherring1955's mom's funeral - drove to Toronto for my cousin Jonathan's wedding - drove to St Catharine's to help my sister pack up her life for the move - with my mother's help, finished the rough draft of my income tax return (will take the pack to my accountant tomorrow) - had one wickedly nasty bout of stomach flu (or food poisoning? either way, BLEH!)
I've also been reading David Morrell's The Successful Novelist, and though I'm not far in, it's been useful already. It actually guilted me back into writing again. I've done a couple of days of Club 100 which isn't much, but considering how little time I've actually been home (and not behind the wheel of my car), it's a miracle, IMHO.
The kids are in bed, and my sister is hanging with me at the moment. She goes back to Alberta soon, which is a total drag.
I will now return to burying my head under a pile of "to-do". Current Location: in bed Current Mood: exhausted Current Music: the sound of kids snoring

02:26 pm - Packing I spent the morning packing (and then unpacking). I always overpack, so I've been trying to cut back on what I'm taking on the cruise.
I checked the Miami, Key West, and Cancun weather, and it looks like high 70s to low 80s, translation please -- 25 to 28C. Not too shabby!!
I hope I've packed the right mix of shorts/tanks vs. T-shirts/jeans. Who the heck knows! I don't want to be cold (I hate being cold), but I don't want to overdress either. Three swimsuits have taken their rightful places.
I just finished reading "Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld last night {which I loved, BTW and now must find and purchase "Pretties"}, so I'll be bringing virgin books. The short list:
"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom "Children of the Mind" by Orson Scott Card "Eastern STandard Tribe" by Cory Doctorow "The Life Lottery" by Ian Irvine
Jockeying for position: "Burndive" by Karin Lowachee "Sabriel" by Garth Nix
Why this eclectic and not-so-current list, you might ask. Because they're all paperbacks and thus won't overload the weight allowance (or my back).
I've made a huge decision (for me). NO LAPTOP on this trip. I will be bringing paper and pen, and I bought myself a Sony dictaphone and Dragon Naturally Speaking software so that I can capture notes or stories as they strike me. Oh, I'm also considering not bringing my Blackberry or at the very least, bringing it but turning off the radio for the duration of the trip. So no emails, no LJ, etc. until Friday.
Am I brave? Crazy? or Wise? I'll let y'all know. Current Mood: nervous Current Music: Theory of a Deadman: No Surprise
